Hutt recently gained a new addition in the form of ZL82 - a wagon of little importance until mid 2013 when it made a trip to Ferrymead (full of Eo components) only to leave a different colour! A bit of railfan cheek mixed with some silver paint resulted in this peculiar wagon - Bit of a "If you want it back you have to ask first" jobbe ZL82 spent a fair few months at ferrymead, being painted up for the 150 celebrations in October 13'. Unfortunately the green stripe did not make it in time for the event but it still mixed in well with the other equipment on site - Early 2014 saw the wagon return to the national network, with all tie down hooks and handrails painted yellow to comply with modern standards. Spending most of its time in the South Island it then went on to spend a few months in the upper North Island before its one-and-a-half way journey to Hutt. It's future? Well... Not quite the end of the line though - So is born another interesting log wagon variant. Excuse the shitty back-lit photo... While the Za (or variants thereof) may live on to see another day, the same cannot be said for the North island CF fleet... And to cap this off, the interesting vehicles hooked to ZL82... And the interesting vehicles hooked to Tweety...

Note to self - Never plan subjects that will take more than one post to complete. NEVER. All it does is makes you lazy and prevents you from doing other posts until its complete. There goes 4 months i guess. So on that note here are a few of the pics I had set aside for "The Year That Was: Part Deux". After posting all of these pictures I feel i should mention that I do actually work, and not just foam all day. Well I guess I will leave it there - expect more smaller posts soon, as now I don't have this bastard hanging over me thanks to nagging friends and flatmates. Hope you enjoyed this small look into my year at Hutt, as I certainly enjoyed taking them.
Today marks a year since starting my career in rail - For most people that means sick leave entitlements... yea it means that for me too. But it was an interesting year none the less so I thought I should cap it up with a few pictures. Yes, just a few. I started off my time in group 10 - Locomotive bogies. After the first few months in the welding bay I finished up my time there overhauling DX bogies, repetitive work but with a good bunch of guys. More recently I have been in group 14 - Out of course overhaul. Engine changes, turbos, bogie work, generator changes, blowers, fuel tanks, you name it - we do it. Really varied work with a good amount of problem solving puts it right up my alley! - Scrapping came with a vengeance this year; a sad end to an interesting era in Wellington rail. (Note to self: take more photos) Other things disappeared from the rail scene also - must win lotto and buy a boat... Then there are the ones in hibernation - for now. One for my favorite projects in my time in group 14. mmmm mitsi. Alas - I've reached the picture limit. Someone remind me to do a part II tomorrow.
Aaand a few from work over the last few weeks -
Too lazy to write a blurb for this post. Have some captions.
This weeks project - 8 new power assemblies, new main bearings, new dyno grid & some bogey repairs. Also a very shameless selfie whilst getting a few toaster reference shots.
